Dr. Tracey Gendron is the author of Ageism Unmasked: Exploring Age Bias and How to End It. She serves as Chair for the Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Gerontology and is the Director for the Virginia Center on Aging. She is an internationally recognized gerontologist with almost 30 years of experience. She is a grant-funded researcher and speaks to audiences globally about the real-world impact of age bias. Tracey has a Master’s degree in Gerontology, a Master’s degree in Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology.

Objectives:

  • Understanding how aging is an intersectional experience that we each experience differently.

  • Understanding and appreciating both the challenges and opportunities of aging.

  • Learning to reset expectations for older age by recognizing elderhood as a time of renewed meaning and purpose.

  • Define ageism and ableism and identify how it impacts you personally and professionally.

  • Describe how ageism negatively impacts health, longevity and happiness.
